About Blackjack: rules and how it works
Blackjack, also known as twenty-one, is one of the most popular card games in the world and descends from the French game vingt-et-un. The aim is to finish with a higher total than the dealer without going over 21. Cards 2 to 10 count at face value, J, Q and K are worth 10, and an Ace counts as 1 or 11, whichever helps you more.
Here you play against a computer dealer. You start with 100 chips and every hand costs a fixed 10-chip bet. After the deal you see both your cards but only one of the dealer's, then choose Hit to take another card or Stand to hold. A win returns 20 chips, a tie returns your bet, and going over 21 loses the hand.
The dealer follows a fixed rule and draws until reaching 17 or more. A full 52-card deck is reshuffled for every hand. It is all play chips with no real money, no download and no signup, and after your first visit the game keeps working offline, so you can practise your decisions anywhere without risking a cent.
Blackjack tips and strategy
- On 11 or less, always hit. You cannot bust, because no single card is worth more than 11.
- On a hard 17 or higher, stand. The chance of busting with one more card is simply too high.
- On 13 to 16, look at the dealer's up card: stand against 2 to 6 and let the dealer risk busting, hit against 7 or higher, including an Ace. On 12, stand only against 4, 5 or 6.
- A hand with an Ace counted as 11 is soft and flexible. Always hit a soft 17 or lower, since the Ace drops to 1 if you go over 21.
- Card counting will not help here. The full deck is reshuffled before every hand, so each round starts fresh.

About the game
- How do I play Blackjack?
- Deal, Hit for more, Stand to hold. 21 is blackjack!
- Does a natural blackjack pay extra?
- Not in this version. A 21 on your first two cards ends your turn automatically and pays the same as any win, returning 20 chips. If the dealer also reaches 21, the hand is a push and your bet comes back.
- When does the dealer stop drawing cards?
- The dealer makes no choices: it draws until the total is 17 or more and then stands, including on a soft 17 with an Ace counted as 11. If the dealer goes over 21, you win as long as you have not busted first.
- Can I double down or split pairs?
- No. This is a simplified table with just two actions, Hit and Stand, and a fixed 10-chip bet. There is no doubling, splitting, insurance or surrender, which makes it a clean way to practise the core hit-or-stand decisions.
- What kind of game is Blackjack?
