About Anagram: rules and how it works
An anagram is a word made by rearranging every letter of another word, with nothing added or left out. Listen and silent are a classic pair. Anagrams have long been a staple of riddles, crosswords and word puzzles, and solving them is a good workout for vocabulary and pattern spotting.
In this game you get the letters of a word in a jumbled order and have to put them back. Click a letter to drop it into the next empty slot, left to right; click a placed letter to send it back. All 40 words on the list have six or seven letters, such as lantern, dolphin and unicorn, and a counter keeps track of how many you have solved.
If a word has you stuck, the Skip button moves on with no penalty. There are no lives and no timer, so you can think at your own pace. The jumbled order is never another word from the list, so every puzzle starts properly scrambled, and when you solve one the game shows the word and deals the next.
Anagram tips and strategy
- Look for familiar letter pairs first, such as CH, CK, ER and ON. Building those chunks cuts down the possibilities fast.
- Work from the end of the word. Endings like -ER, -ET, -OW and -IN show up across the list, in words such as summer, basket, window and penguin.
- If you see two identical letters, try them side by side first: rabbit, balloon, pillow and muffin all keep their double letters together.
- If you see Not quite, the order is still off. Pull back only the last few letters and try other arrangements, keeping the start that looks right.
- Do not sink too long into one word. Skip it and keep going; the more words you solve, the faster you start to recognise the patterns.

About the game
- How do I play Anagram?
- Click letters to place them in order. Click a placed letter to remove it.
- Why was my answer rejected when it is a real word?
- The game only accepts words from its own list. If the letters also spell a different real word that is not on the list, you will see Not quite. Pull a few letters back and try another arrangement until you find the hidden word.
- How long are the words in this anagram game?
- Every word has six or seven letters, for example orange, galaxy, journey and dolphin. That length is enough to be challenging without becoming frustrating, and all of them are common everyday English words.
- What is the difference between Anagram and Word Scramble?
- In Anagram you build the answer by clicking letter tiles, and the words have six or seven letters. In Word Scramble you type the answer into a text box, and the words are slightly shorter, with five or six letters. Both let you skip a word.
- What kind of game is Anagram?
- Anagram belongs to the Puzzle Games collection you can play free online, with a focus on palavras, logica.
